<p>The<strong> xDSD Gryphon</strong> uses our <strong><em>PureWave</em></strong> amplification circuitry. It has 1,000mW at 32 Ohms. With a whopping max 6.7v output, bring on the high impedance headphones because the <strong>Gryphon</strong> will not break a sweat driving them.</p>
<p>This is plenty to drive all manner of headphones. The 4.4mm Balanced is the best for balanced playback. The 3.5mm <strong><em>S-Balanced</em></strong> will max SE headphones. And your premium high-sensitivity IEMs have not been forgotten either – <em><strong>iEMatch</strong></em> will cut out the hiss.</p>

<p><em><strong>XSpace</strong></em> adds back the cavernous sound stage of recordings.</p>
<p><em><strong>XBass II</strong></em> reinstates the missing bass from open-backed headphones or for recordings that you hanker for bass slam. Under <em><strong>XBass II</strong></em> you can select ‘Bass’ and/or ‘Presence’ so that the upper midrange frequencies are correctly added back into your favourite recording.</p>
<p><em><strong>iEMatch</strong></em> – is our proprietary tech which reduces the annoying hiss from high-sensitivity headphones without losing any dynamic range.</p>

<p>We use Qualcomm’s new QCC5100 Bluetooth processing IC in combination with proprietary circuits to create an audibly superior ‘Bluetooth engine’.</p>
<p>All the current high-definition Bluetooth audio formats are supported – Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, Sony’s LDAC and HWA’s LHDC, regular aptX and aptX Low Latency, AAC (Apple iOS devices) and SBC (the ‘plain vanilla’ Bluetooth codec).</p>
<p>Of the 24-bit-capable codecs, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD support up to 48kHz, while LDAC and LHDC reach 96kHz.</p>
<p>iFi’s ‘Bluetooth engine’ can also be updated over-the-air, so future codecs may be added.</p>

<p>‘Negative feedback’ is used in amplifier circuits to compare the output signal with the input signal and correct errors, in order to control gain and reduce distortion.</p>
<p>For sound quality, this is positive; BUT commonly applied, one-size-fits-all ‘global negative feedback’ can also highlight different problems at the same time as solving others – corruption of the error signal, phase shifts, group delay and so on can all have a negative impact on sound quality.</p>
<p>We recognised that different parts of a circuit benefit from specifically optimised feedback loops and have developed a negative feedback system that is much more accurate than the usual approach. This incorporates multiple feedback paths instead of a global loop, each path optimised for a particular function and working synergistically with the others to deliver optimal overall performance.</p>

<p><em><strong>CyberSync</strong></em> is a software-driven volume control that operates in the analogue domain and the way it synchronises with any digital source to which the<strong> xDSD Gryphon</strong> is connected is very different.</p>
<p>It provides perfect volume synchronisation between the source and the DAC. It detects which operating system (OS) the DAC is connected to – iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS or Linux – and instructs the source’s OS to bypass its software volume control. Whether volume is adjusted using the <strong>xDSD Gryphon</strong>’s rotary control or on the source device, <em><strong>CyberSync</strong></em> ensures the change is performed purely by the Gryphon’s superior analogue control chip, while also displaying the adjustment on the source device’s screen. Volume curves differ between operating systems and apps, but <em><strong>CyberSync</strong></em> ensures perfect synchronisation between the source device and the DAC every time.</p>

<p>The Burr-Brown DAC chip selected for for its fluid, highly ‘musical’ sound quality and True Native architecture, together with iFi custom circuitry, enables the<strong> hip-dac2</strong> to deliver excellent sound quality across digital audio formats, including bit-perfect<i class="far fa-info-circle pop-bit orange"></i> PCM, native DSD and MQA.</p>
<p>The upgraded crystal clock eradicates jitter (digital distortion), using iFi’s GMT femto precision clocking system. This maintains the integrity of the digital signal until conversion to analogue and enhances sound quality.</p>

<p>Thanks to the XMOS 16 core tech, the <strong>hip-dac2</strong> is now <strong><em>an MQA Decoder</em></strong> rather than a Renderer only.</p>
<p>This enables you to play back MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. The LED glows green or blue to indicate that the unit is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and denotes provenance to ensure that the sound is identical to that of the source material. It glows blue to indicate it is playing an MQA Studio file, which has either been approved in the studio by the artist/producer or has been verified by the copyright owner.</p>
<p><em>MQA rendering technology (used in the original hip-dac among other iFi products) connects to an MQA Core signal (such as TIDAL) and completes the final unfold of an MQA file. Usually, the computer has carried out the decoding. </em></p>

<p>The amp stage can deliver 400mW into a 32-ohm headphone load, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of headphone and earphone types with power to spare. Even high-impedance headphones are handled with ease thanks to output voltage of 6.3V into 600 ohms (from the balanced output).</p>

<p>The amp stage features switchable gain<i class="far fa-info-circle pop-gain orange"></i>, which we call <strong><em>PowerMatch</em></strong>. This matches the level of drive to the load presented by the headphones, by adjusting input sensitivity and thereby signal strength. Use the lower setting with high-sensitivity headphone. If  your headphones require more drive, use <em><strong>PowerMatch</strong></em> to increase gain.</p>
<p><em><strong>XBass</strong></em> is another user-selectable feature – a sophisticated form of ‘bass boost’ that enhances low frequencies without muddying the midrange, particularly useful with earphones and open-back headphones that may lack deep bass. It operates entirely in the analogue domain rather than messing with the digital signal via DSP<i class="far fa-info-circle pop-avd orange"></i>.</p>

<p>There are two USB ports – Type A for audio data and USB-C for charging.  The Type A port features a male connector to provide greater mechanical integrity than a USB/micro USB ports commonly found on other DAC/headphone amps.</p>
<p>Two outputs are provided – a 3.5mm socket for headphones with a single-ended cable/connector and a Balanced 4.4mm output enabling headphones equipped with balanced connectivity to take full advantage of the <strong>hip-dac2</strong>’s differential amp design.</p>
<p>In addition, the 3.5mm output benefits from iFi’s proprietary S-Balanced circuitry, cutting crosstalk and related distortion in half when used with regular, single-ended headphone connections – this is especially beneficial with high-sensitivity in-ear monitors.</p>

<p>Both the original <a href="https://ifi-audio.com/products/hip-dac/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hip-dac</a> and the new <strong>hip-dac2</strong> sport a 102x70x14mm extruded aluminium enclosure, sufficiently robust to be ported around without fear of breakage.</p>
<p>However, some may wish to add further protection for the beautifully anodised metallic finish, whilst giving their beloved DAC/headphone amp a softer, suede-like feel – for them, the new <strong>hip-case</strong> is ideal.</p>
<p>Made from  ‘faux suede’ in cool Dove Grey, with stitch detail and an embroidered iFi logo, the hip-case fits both the hip-dac and<strong> hip-dac2</strong> like a glove, protecting it without hindering functionality.</p>

<p>The XMOS 16-Core chip processes the audio data received via the USB digital input.</p>
<p>This new low-latency XMOS microcontroller has greatly enhanced processing power. Compared to the current generation of eight-core chips, this new 16-core IC delivers double the clock speed (2000MIPS) and four times the memory (512KB), as well as the latest SuperSpeed USB standard.</p>
<p>iFi’s in-house digital development team has programmed the XMOS firmware to optimise sound quality and ensure a perfect partnership with the Burr-Brown DAC.</p>

<p>Most pocket-size Bluetooth DAC/headphone amps incorporate all-in-one ‘system on a chip’ solutions to deliver input processing, digital-to-analogue signal conversion and amplification. These are simple and cost-effective, but they cannot compare with expertly designed, individually optimised circuit stages when it comes to sound quality.</p>
<p>Uniquely for a device of this type and size, the <strong>GO blu</strong>’s clever design packs in separate Bluetooth + DAC + Amp stages, each engineered in distinct blocks to deliver the ideal combination of cutting-edge specification and superb sound. Others just don’t this level of execution.</p>
<p>The Bluetooth stage makes full use of Qualcomm’s latest four-core QCC5100 Bluetooth chip and supports every current high definition format.</p>
<p>This then feeds the DAC stage with a Cirrus Logic 32-bit DAC chip at its heart. This is coupled with a customised digital filter to minimise pre-echoes and ringing artefacts, and a precision clock system to ensure ultra-low jitter, thus reducing errors and distortion in the digital audio signal.</p>
<p>The amp circuitry benefits from symmetrical twin-mono signal paths and utilises iFi’s <em><strong>Direct Drive</strong></em> design concept – direct-coupled to ensure a clean signal path without distortion-inducing output coupling capacitors. The amp stage delivers up to 5.6V (twice the voltage of others) – considerably more power than other similarly sized devices – handling even relatively tough headphone loads with ease. To ensure signal strength suits the sensitivity of the connected headphones or earphones, auto-gain adjusts output up or down by 6dB.</p>

<p>In addition, the 3.5mm output benefits from iFi’s proprietary <em><strong>S-Balanced</strong></em> circuitry. This cuts crosstalk and related distortion in half when used with regular, single-ended headphone connections, this is especially beneficial with high-sensitivity in-ear monitors.</p>

<p>We use Qualcomm’s new QCC5100 Bluetooth IC in combination with the Cirruc Logic 43131 as DAC to to create an audibly superior ‘Bluetooth engine’.</p>
<p>All the current high-definition Bluetooth audio formats are supported – Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, Sony’s LDAC and HWA’s LHDC, regular aptX and aptX Low Latency, AAC (Apple iOS devices) and SBC (the ‘plain vanilla’ Bluetooth codec).</p>
<p>Of the 24-bit-capable codecs, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD support up to 48kHz, while LDAC and LHDC reach 96kHz.</p>
<p>iFi’s ‘Bluetooth engine’ can also be updated over-the-air, so future codecs may be added.</p>

<h2>Balanced design is truly special.</h2>
<p>The analogue output stage is balanced, not normally seen in DACs at this price point. Balanced means less noise, interference/crosstalk.</p>
<p>It has RCA and balanced outputs at HiFi standard level; 2V SE and 4V BAL and  is therefore compatible with both HiFi and Pro systems.</p>
<p>All underpinned by high-quality circuit components such as C0G capacitors from TDK and it’s fed by a precision low-noise power supply from Texas Instruments to make this a rare entry-priced beastie.</p>
<p>Plus we’ve improved our <em><strong>Global Master Timing (GMT)</strong></em> clock circuitry to give you an even smoother musical ride. It means &gt;20db better performance for even more ZEN.</p>

<p>Behind XBass is our active EQ circuit which meets a common gripe with headphones head-on, a lack of bass.</p>
<p>Open-back headphones in particular, let all frequencies (especially those precious bass frequencies that the drivers generate so little of) leak freely out of the back instead of trapping and redirecting them back to your ears.</p>
<p>XBass equalisation is a much more elegant solution to bass correction than seen elsewhere. It consists of active and passive components and its frequency response curve corrects their low-end response problems with precision.</p>

<p>Thanks to the 16 core tech, the <strong>ZEN DAC V2</strong> is now <strong><em>an MQA Decoder</em></strong> rather than a Renderer only.</p>
<p>This enables you to play back MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. The LED glows green or blue to indicate that the unit is decoding and playing an MQA stream or file, and denotes provenance to ensure that the sound is identical to that of the source material. It glows blue to indicate it is playing an MQA Studio file, which has either been approved in the studio by the artist/producer or has been verified by the copyright owner.</p>
<p><em>MQA rendering technology (used in the original ZEN DAC among other iFi products) connects to an MQA Core signal (such as TIDAL) and completes the final unfold of an MQA file. Usually, the computer has carried out the decoding. </em></p>

<p>A new and improved low jitter, crystal clock means &gt;20dB better performance. The super-low noise performance means the<strong> ZEN DAC V2</strong> will remain quiet even in noisy situations such as yachts or RVs.</p>
<p>The balanced<i class="far fa-info-circle pop-balau orange"></i> design for the analogue stage – rare and not found at this price point – makes it pretty special and delivers the best sound quality, normally found in higher priced models.</p>
<p>The <strong>ZEN DAC V2</strong> sports Pentaconn 4.4mm balanced<i class="far fa-info-circle pop-bal orange"></i> outputs at both the front and back. On the front, there’s also the popular 6.3mm headphone socket.</p>

<p>The XMOS 16-Core chip processes the audio data received via the USB* digital input.</p>
<p>This new low-latency XMOS microcontroller has greatly enhanced processing power. Compared to the current generation of eight-core chips, this new 16-core IC delivers double the clock speed (2000MIPS) and four times the memory (512KB), as well as the latest SuperSpeed USB standard.</p>
<p>iFi’s in-house digital development team has programmed the XMOS firmware to optimise sound quality and ensure a perfect partnership with the Burr-Brown DAC.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mqa.co.uk/how-it-works" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MQA</a> (Master Quality Authenticated) is supported through the USB with full decoding of MQA files up to 384kHz thanks to the processing power of the new 16-core XMOS chip.</p>
<p>This means that the full ‘three unfold’ decoding process is performed internally, as opposed to only the final unfold in the manner of an MQA ‘renderer’.</p>
<p>Globally, MQA has become an important consideration for any comprehensively equipped DAC. It is available through for Tidal Masters, Audirvana and Roon.</p>
